USTA KY & LEXINGTON CLINIC ORTHOPEDICS – SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER

The USTA KY is pleased to announce an association with Lexington Clinic Orthopedics-Sports Medicine Center (LCOSMC) and its Center of Excellence in Tennis Sports Medicine that will provide a wide range of resources for the USTA KY members.

The LCOSMC is one of only 2 centers in the USA to receive the designation of Center of Excellence in Tennis Sports Medicine from the Society for Tennis Medicine and Science (STMS), the international society for tennis sports medicine professionals. The designation recognizes sustained achievements in sports medicine care, sports medicine research, and involvement in the tennis community.

A Statement from W. Ben Kibler, MD- The Shoulder Center of Kentucky at Lexington Clinic:

In its 40 years of existence, the LCOSMC has treated thousands of recreational, competitive and professional tennis players; has participated in the USTA Sports Science Committee for 27 years; serves as consultants for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR); has served as tournament physicians for multiple professional events; has produced 60 scientific papers on tennis sports medicine, and has presented over 300 educational talks to various tennis organizations.

This association will increase USTA KY’s ability to provide members, through the linked websites of both organizations, up to date information regarding common tennis sports medicine concerns, including specific tennis related injuries, post injury return to play, injury risk modification and conditioning/nutrition.  It will also introduce an “Ask the Doc” feature, an interactive opportunity to have communication with a LCOSMC professional. In addition, there will be in person events at designated tournaments, with further opportunities for interaction and discussion. Finally, there will be an opportunity to access the LCOSMC’s program for biomechanical analysis of the serve motion. This program, which was developed by LCOSMC in association with the WTA, allows real time analysis and feedback regarding the mechanics of the serve motion, and can highlight suggested interventions to improve serve mechanics.

USTA KY and LCOSMC are pleased to be able to work together to provide information and resources that will help USTA KY members play and enjoy the sport of a lifetime.
