USTA HONORS OWENSBORO TENNIS FACILITY
The USTA national office located in White Plains, NY announced that the Owensboro Tennis Facility in Owensboro, KY, is one of 12 nationwide winners of the USTA Facility Awards Program. This program recognizes excellence in the construction and/or renovation of tennis facilities throughout the country. The Owensboro Tennis Facility was honored at the USTA Semi-Annual Meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on September 1st at an Awards luncheon. Owensboro Daviess County Community Tennis Association Board members, Noel Clayton, VP and Phil Clark were present to accept the award.
The $4.1 million tennis complex was built through a unique partnership between Owensboro Daviess County Tennis Association (ODCTA) and the City of Owensboro. ODCTA raised more than $800,000 and gave the City of Owensboro $500,000 to start the project. The indoor facility boasts an expansive mezzanine viewing area, state-of-the art LED lighting system and a fully-glassed, brightly furnished lobby.
“Great tennis facilities like the Owensboro Tennis Facility help us to grow the game at the grass-roots level, and we are proud to recognize them for their ongoing impact on the sport of tennis,” said Kurt Kamperman, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA. “Owensboro Tennis Facility has embraced many of our tennis initiatives and kept the sport at the forefront of its community each year.”
To be considered for an award, facilities must be under the jurisdiction of a park and recreation department, an education institution a nonprofit corporation or be a private or commercially owned and operated facility that offers both USTA and public programming designed to help grow tennis.
All 2016 award winners will receive a wall plaque and an all-weather sign, which can be mounted at the facility. In addition, a one-year complimentary membership to the USTA will be awarded to each winning facility
