On March 30-31, 2019 , University of Kentucky Club Tennis partnered with USTAKY Tennis on Campus to host a home tournament at Top Seed Tennis Club in Lexington. Teams from the Midwest, Southern, and Missouri Region were represented. Overall, UK placed 2nd, going into overtime with Ohio State.
Liane Ikome, UK Club Tennis President said "We are passionate about creating tennis opportunities for college students. We are sort of like a second tennis team tennis players can look forward to after graduating high school, with greater flexibility and without the pressure of being varsity. While traveling to compete in tournaments is fun (like Southern Championships where we placed 11th), we decided it was time to bring a TOC tournament to KY to draw attention to our chapter and allow those who can’t travel often to compete. Thanks to our location, we were able to bring teams from the South/Midwest/Missouri Valley into one tournament. We aim to make KY Open an annual tournament with Top Seed Tennis Club"
Tennis on Campus provides an excellent opportunity to continue play in college outside of Varsity play.
Senior Hunter Nguyen said "Tennis on Campus has been one of the best things I participated in during college! It allowed me to continue playing competitive tennis while also focusing on my studies. I also had the privilege to serve as president one year and learned what it takes to run a club (it was also a good resume builder). Tennis on Campus also allowed me to meet some of the coolest people I know and will be life long friends with!"
