Timothy McCollum Awarded

PTR Member of the Year for Kentucky

Hilton Head Island, SC - - The Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented some of its annual awards this month during the PTR International Tennis Symposium.  The virtual event included a trade show and more than 70 educational presentations reaching a record number of attendees, including more than 1,250 tennis professionals from 61 countries. During the awards presentation, Timothy McCollum, of Louisville, was named PTR Member of the Year for Kentucky. The award is presented to a member who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting the sport of tennis and PTR.

Since 2016, McCollum has been on staff with the Southern Section of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), for which he serves as Tennis Service Representative (TSR) for Kentucky. As TSR, he consults and collaborates with tennis facilities, teaching professionals, community organizations, industry associations, and non-tennis entities to develop, service, and promote tennis participation.

Over the past year McCollum was integral to the success of efforts by USTA Southern and USTA National to address financial hardship faced by teaching pros and facilities. On behalf of USTA Kentucky, he designed and directed a database project that researched more than 440 Kentucky tennis facilities and contributed to the success of the 2020 Kentucky Tennis Summit, having hosted a series of virtual meetings to engage the interests and concerns of tennis coaches, teaching professionals, and directors at facilities and country clubs.

A PTR member since 2016, McCollum has earned two PTR professional certifications, promotes certification and continuing education, aids tennis instruction and community engagement efforts, and has assisted with Advancing the Commitment to Education (ACE) workshops in Lexington and Louisville – a certification vehicle to improve diversity among teaching professionals.

In addition to USTA and PTR, McCollum is president of the Kentucky chapter of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), a USPTA Elite Professional, a certified coach with the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) and Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), on the board of the Kentucky High School Tennis Coaches Association (KYHSTCA), and an adjunct professor of anthropology at Bellarmine University. PTR is proud to recognize Timothy McCollum as PTR Member of the Year for Kentucky for his continued support of PTR and the development of tennis.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,000 members in 131 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the sport.  Visit ptrtennis.org
