Presidents Letter June 2019

Kentucky Tennis Family,

It’s hard to believe that we are already more than halfway through June!  The summer always goes too fast for me!

This month, I want to share with you about a way that you can make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals around our state.  Raise a Racquet (RaR) is a tennis focused charitable foundation that benefits Kentucky’s tennis communities. In the past, this foundation has received requests of many different types – from providing funding for tennis opportunities to underserved youth to financial aid for the Middle School State Tennis Tournament as well as helping support promising rising junior players with entry fees and travel expenses and much, much more.

The RaR board is currently working hard to increase awareness about the important work the organization does. They are getting the word out via social media channels like Facebook and Instagram. RaR and USTA Kentucky are closely connected, as RaR was formed years ago to be the charitable arm of USTA Kentucky. Because of this close relationship, I felt it was super important to make sure that you know more about the organization, what it does and how you can be part of its important work.

Toward that goal, instead of a letter from me in the July & August newsletters, you’ll be hearing from individuals and/or organizations who have been directly impacted by the work of Raise a Racquet!

As you read these stories, I ask that you think about the impact tennis has had on your life and how you might be different today, if not for tennis. Would you have the same friends?  Would you be as physically active?  What about the tennis related trips, tournaments, dinners and parties that you’ve enjoyed? How would your life be different without those experiences?  There are so many ways that tennis impacts each of us and no two ways are exactly the same, but we all value the influence it has had in our lives. So, considering the impact tennis has had in your life, I ask you these questions:

  1. Do you believe tennis has the power to change lives?
  2. Do you believe that every person should have the opportunity to play tennis, regardless of financial status?
  3. Do you believe that tennis can bridge barriers, connect people and make our communities better places?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, I ask you to consider contributing financially to the Raise a Racquet Foundation and you’ll help share that influence and impact with others who may not otherwise be able to afford to participate in our great game. I have already asked each member of the USTA Kentucky Board to give financially to RaR and I am proud to say that we are well on our way to 100% participation - I’d love for you to join us!

Giving is a very individual, personal thing, but please know that regardless of whether it is $1 or $1000, your gift matters. And if that isn’t powerful enough, an anonymous donor has pledged to match every donation up to $5,000!  By donating today, your gift has double the impact!

To make a donation by credit card or PayPal, please click HERE and then click on the “Donate” button.  If you’d prefer to send a check, you can make it payable to Raise a Racquet Foundation and mail it to
