Pennyrile TA Partners with Hopkinsville P&R

Pennyrile Area Tennis Association partners with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department

by: Richard Wimsatt

Pennyrile Area Tennis Association has partnered with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department for a two week 10 and Under Clinic. This was made possible with a $650 grant through Southern. Its a two-week clinic held on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. We wanted to get it in before schools started classes.

PROMOTING:

The Clinic was promoted in three area newspapers The Cadiz Record, Trigg County; Kentucky New Era, Christian County; and The Eagle Post, South Christian, Fort Campbell and Clarksville, Tn. It was also listed on the Parks and Recreation Department's website. Players came from Cadiz, Clarksville - Fort Campbell, and Hopkinsville. The market areas we were trying to hit. 10 and Under back packs or other gifts of participation were given to the children.

PARTICIPATION:

We only promoted for one week and the Clinic was limited to 12 students. This was the first time Pen Ten and Rec. Department had partnered for a 10 and Under Clinic and we didn't know what to expect due to Covid 19. The two-week clinic has been a success. 10 and Under is FREE to the public.

LOCATION:

Hopkinsville Rec. Department set up three courts indoors. We have dividers set up between the three courts to keep balls from traveling onto the other courts while practicing social distancing. We furnished the tennis racquets, balls and literature.

FINAL DAY:

We are planning to have our regular 10 and Under class with a little social at the end. Students will receive a Certificate of Participating Certificate and celebrate with refreshments.
