Ailsa Currie is a teen that exemplifies what is means to be the next generation of greats! She made the decision three years ago to get involved as a volunteer for the Buddy Up Program in Louisville and has been coaching in the program for the past year. This program partners a special needs athlete with a volunteer coach (buddy) to provide one-on-one tennis instruction and fun! As of last summer, she wanted to help even more and she is now responsible for recruiting, training and organizing buddies too. Each week she sends out messages to encourage sign ups. She has really embraced her coaching role at the Tennis Club at Springhurst where she teaches red, orange and green ball kids as well as building up her client base for private lessons too. As part of this, she is going to take on the mentoring of some of our teen helpers which assist classes. Ailsa is also a volunteer coach at North Oldham Middle School.
In addition to her volunteerism, Ailsa holds a very special title, she is the youngest PTR professional in the world. In 2017, Ailsa received a scholarship to attend a PTR course for 10 & Under Tennis certification and at the age of 16, became the youngest PTR pro not just in Kentucky, but across the globe. Ailsa will be presented with a badge at the 2018 PTR Symposium for this distinguished honor. We are thrilled to have a next generation great in the Bluegrass state.
