Meg Peavy Named PTR Kentucky Member of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards today during the 2018 PTR International Tennis Symposium.  The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis coaches, is underway February 13-16, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Meg Peavy, of Fisherville, Kentucky, has been named PTR Member of the Year for the state.  This award is presented to a PTR member who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR.  

A PTR certified Professional since 1993, Peavy is also the recipient of USTA Kentucky’s 2017 Volunteer of the Year and Wheelchair Excellence awards.  She was then honored with the Wheelchair Excellence Award by USTA Southern.  Peavy is also an inductee of the both the USTA Kentucky and the University of Louisville Athletic Halls of Fame.

Peavy works tirelessly to serve the under-served.  As the Associate Director of the Bass-Rudd Tennis Facility at the University of Louisville, she has provided the use of the courts for many events, including the Bluegrass Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, and PTR ACE certification workshops, so aspiring tennis teachers of color can get certified.  She also provides personal instruction twice a week to children undergoing therapy at the renowned Frazier Rehab Institute.  In addition, Peavy teaches ongoing tennis programs for organizations including Kentucky Special Olympics, Down Syndrome of Louisville and FEAT for autistic children.  

Since 2000, Peavy has been a member of the USTA Kentucky Wheelchair Tennis Tournament Committee since 2000, and has served as the Chair for the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at for more than seven years.  She was also appointed to the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of USTA Southern.

A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Peavy holds a Masters degree in Sports Journalism.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,000 members in 125 countries.  It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization.  PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and serving tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
