Courier Journal Tennis Player of the Year Award
We are excited to report that St. Francis’ Eva Borders won the Kentuckiana Courier Journal’s Girls Tennis Player of the Year Award presented by Norton Sports Health on Monday, June 12, at the Palace Theater in Louisville where Mia Hamm was guest speaker.
As a junior, Borders entered the state tournament as a top seed and defeated McCraken County senior Michelle McKamey 6-1, 6-2 to win the state title.
Eva was in good company with finalists Collegiate’s Caroline Cox, North Harrison’s Payton Fravel and Providence’s Hallie Trinkle.
On the boys’ side, Drew Singerman, St. Xavier graduate and Furman University NCAA Division 1 signee, won the Boys Tennis Player of the Year Award.
Singerman was the sixth runner-up and a member of the St. Xavier’s state championship team. Singerman also won the 2016 Courier Journal Boy Tennis Player of the Year.
Drew’s fellow finalists were New Albany’s Logan Charbonneau, Jeffersonville’s Bradley Cross and St. Xavier’s Alex Wesbrook.
More than 1,500 people gathered at the Louisville Palace to celebrate the achievements of Kentuckiana high school athletes at the Courier-Journal Sports Awards. Unfortunately, both Drew and Eva were unable to attend and receive their award and recognition publicly, as they were participating in Southerns in Mobile, Alabama!
