GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Drew Singerman has been named the Southern Conference men's tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 13-19, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Singerman went 2-0 at No. 3 singles and was 3-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Paladins, who are 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the SoCon, extended their seven-match win streak with three wins over the weekend. This is the second consecutive weekly award for Furman after Cameron Green garnered the honor on Feb. 13.
A freshman from Louisville, Ky., Singerman started the week with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over Belmont's Vincent Sterkens on Feb. 17. He also paired with Ivan Mitric to earn a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Belmont, helping Furman to a 5-2 victory. That same day, Singerman and Mitric earned a 6-1 win at the No. 1 position over The Citadel's Willem van Zyl and Noah Nawabi, leading the Paladins to their first conference win of the season, 6-1.
Singerman rounded out the week with a 6-4, 7-5 advantage over Gardner-Webb's Paul Hogan at the No. 3 position. Earlier in the day, Singerman and Mitric downed the Bulldogs' Millen Hurrion and Adam Schmidt, 7-6 (7-2), at the No. 2 spot to help Furman secure the 6-1 victory.
Furman will travel to Duke on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.
