Intern, Diversity and Inclusion

Summer or Fall 2022

 

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION’S PURPOSE

 

United States Tennis Association (USTA) - Kentucky is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic individual to serve as the organization’s Diversity and Inclusion Intern. The individual will report to the Executive Director and collaborate frequently with staff and tennis providers. This internship requires 10 to 20 hours a week and allows for flexibility with class schedule. Internship will involve some weekend availability for tournament and championship administration. 

 

The internship is paid through a grant provided by USTA Southern and matched by USTA Kentucky. USTA Kentucky will work with any College or University to complete documentation needed for educational credit.  Travel expenses for out-of-town events will be paid.   Flexible start and end dates with preference given to applicants available during peak months of May through October. Internship is based at the USTA Kentucky office in Louisville.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Tennis industry, sport industry, and/or nonprofit experience preferred.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software is needed.  Candidate should exhibit strong communication, customer service, organizational and administrative skills.  Evening and weekend availability is a must. 18 years of age or older required. 21 years of age or older preferred.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

  • Assist with all aspects of the organization with an emphasis on Diversity and Inclusion efforts across Kentucky
  • Assist with the updating of the organizations Diversity and Inclusion Plan
  • Provide tennis programs to diverse individuals in a variety of settings
  • Assist with organizing and supporting Junior and Adult Tennis Programs throughout Kentucky
  • Assist in planning, preparation and delivery of special events, tournaments, and championships for tennis players, encompassing 20-350 participants per event
  • Assist in creating, editing and distributing marketing materials
  • Support staff with special projects and events (tournaments, league championships)
  • Assist Community Tennis Associations, National Junior Tennis and Learning Chapters and other tennis providers with their promotional needs
  • Demonstrate a positive, enthusiastic attitude, with a good attendance record
  • Have reliable transportation and availability on some evenings and weekends
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director

Intern, Adult Tennis Programs

The individual will report to the Executive Director and collaborate frequently with the Manager, USTA Adult Leagues and Manager, Recreational and Competitive Tennis and other staff. This internship requires 10 to 20 hours a week and allows for flexibility with class schedule. Internship will involve some weekend availability for tournament and championship administration. 

 

The internship is unpaid, but USTA Kentucky will work with any College or University to complete documentation needed for educational credit.  Travel expenses for out-of-town events will be paid.   Flexible start and end dates with preference given to applicants available during peak months of May through October. Internship is based out of the USTA Kentucky office in Louisville.

  • Assist in planning, preparation and delivery of special events, tournaments and championships for tennis players, encompassing 50-800 participants per event.
  • Assist in creating, editing, and distributing marketing materials
  • Support staff with special projects and events (tournaments, league championships)
  • Assist Community Tennis Associations with their promotional needs
  • Demonstrate a positive, enthusiastic attitude, with a good attendance record
  • Have reliable transportation and availability on some evenings and weekends
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director
